GIFT TRACK TM is a turnkey prepaid gift certificate program offered by Smart Card Solutions, LLC. This exciting product supports both magnetic stripe (credit) cards and smart cards. A smart card is an integrated chip- based technology which allows an electronic form of money to be tracked in an electronic purse on the card.
The GIFT TRACK TM
program supports memory cards, which are disposable, or it can support reloadable cards as well. Reloadable cards can be used in multiple applications which can tie the Gift Track card to a credit or debit card program or to a frequency/loyalty program. The Gift Track card can even exist as a stand alone prepaid gift certificate system.
Some of the advantages of a smart card based gift certificate program over a paper based system are divisibility, breakage and
reload ability. Paper based gift certificates allow for unused portions of the value to be redeemed. Customers can use certificates to buy less than the prepaid amount and receive the difference in cash.
The GIFT TRACK TM card, on the other hand, must be entirely redeemed for store merchandise. At times, small amounts remain on the Gift Track card which may never be redeemed. This remaining value is known as breakage.
When merchandise is returned to the store for credit, the value of the product can be added to a card. This card is only good toward other purchases within the store, and allows the merchant to retain the value of the sale.
